Transport modes and their associated infrastructure are fundamental elements of urban organization. They structure urban space, shape daily travel patterns, and directly influence residents’ quality of life. However, inadequate planning of transport networks can lead to major issues such as traffic congestion, circulation problems, and inequalities in accessibility.
This course aims to enable students to understand urban dynamics related to mobility and travel by examining the different transport modes in a progressive and chronological manner. It focuses on the specific characteristics of transport infrastructure, whether operating on dedicated rights-of-way or in mixed traffic, as well as on the design, implementation, and impacts of rail-based systems, road transport, and alternative modes.
Through this course, urban planning students will develop a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between transport, urban space, and territorial development, enabling them to better address current and future challenges in urban mobility planning.
